ASVAB

ASVAB stands for “Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery”, and is a comprehensive career exploration program.  The program is intended to be used by 10th, 11th, and 12th grade students and includes a multiple aptitude test battery, an interest inventory, and various career planning skills designed by the Department of Defense to help students across the nation explore the world of work. Magnolia West offers the ASVAB test at no cost each September.  Please contact Mrs. Everett to get signed up to take the ASVAB.

The Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC) is a college-based, officer commissioning program, predominantly in the United States. It is a college elective that focuses on leadership development, problem solving, strategic planning, and professional ethics.

UNITED STATES SERVICE ACADEMIES


United States Merchant Marine Academy http://www.usmma.edu/

Located in Kings Point, NY, this academy teaches students how to succeed in the maritime and transportation industries or the Armed Forces, while it also prepares students to receive a Bachelor of Science degree, a merchant marine license, and an appointment as a commissioned officer on reserve or active duty in the U.S. Armed Forces.

This academy is a four-year coeducational federal service academy located at West Point, New York. Candidates for admission must both apply directly to the academy and receive a nomination, usually from a congressman. Students are officers-in-training and are referred to as cadets. Tuition for cadets is fully funded by the Army in exchange for an active duty service obligation upon graduation.
