Volunteer Hours

Track It Forward

What counts as volunteer hours

  • Active service: This includes time spent performing tasks for an organization, such as administrative work, event assistance, poster making, or providing specialized services like graphic design or social media advertising.
  • Organizing collection drives: This counts as an active service because it involves your time and effort to coordinate the collection of items for a charity.

What does not count as volunteer hours

  • Donating items: The act of donating goods itself is considered a non-cash contribution, not a service.
  • Donating money: Financial contributions are not volunteer hours.
  • Attending a philanthropy event: Simply attending does not count as service, though hosting the event can.
  • Attending a club or organization meeting: This is a requirement for membership, not volunteer hours.
  • Helping family with tasks: While it is appreciated that you are contributing, we consider this a personal responsibility, not service to the wider community or external organization. (Specific exceptions may exist-please discuss with Mrs. Harper)

Hey there! I'm Kara Harper, your go-to person for all things College & Career at MHS. My journey in the education field started 26 years ago. I've worn many hats - teacher, university academic advisor, librarian, and now, the C&C Coordinator. Originally an Oklahoma girl, I moved to Magnolia in 2012 and instantly found my place in the Magnolia ISD family. My educational journey includes a BS in Education from Oklahoma City University (class of '99) and an MLIS from Sam Houston State University (class of 2020). Fun fact: I'm a proud mom of two Magnolia High School graduates. My son recently tossed his college graduation cap in the air, and my daughter is in her 3rd year at OU beginning nursing school at OUHSC. I absolutely love guiding students, parents, staff, and the community as we navigate the exciting world of future opportunities together. Let's explore what's out there!
