Welcome to 2020-2021 Sophomore English!

Howdy!

And welcome to the school year! This year I have sophomore on-level English, and since I have the inside scoop on everything we'll be exploring this year, I can already tell you we've got a fantastic, full year ahead of us.

You'll find that I love unusual, new perspectives; student input; and collaborative thinking. I myself am a linguist, ancient historian, writer, deep-thinker, story-lover, and more; you'll have the opportunity all year to avail yourself of the knowledge and experiences I bring into the classroom, and I hope you take advantage of that - I know about some awesome, widely ranging topics!

However, I am just as excited about learning from you, my students, and the knowledge and stories you bring into my classroom. At the back of my classroom, you will find posted the following quote:

" . . . Muad'Dib learned rapidly because his first training was in how to learn. And the first lesson of all was the basic trust that he could learn."

The quote goes on to say, . . .

"It is shocking to find how many people do not believe they can learn, and how many more believe learning to be difficult. Muad'Dib knew that every experience carries its lesson." (from Dune by Frank Herbert)

I hope that you all take the message of this quote to heart. All of you can learn, all of you will learn, and we are going to have a fantastic year of experiences to learn from.

Note about tutoring: Guys, I just want to let you know that private teaching and private tutoring is something I have been doing for a decade now and how I made my living until teaching in classrooms. If I can ever help you with an assignment, study skills, project preparation, etc., come to me! Don't use tutoring times only when you need a retest; come for advice or help anytime. You won't regret it!
