Volunteer Service
Students will use the platform Track It Forward to submit volunteer hours for graduation cords and for organizations requiring volunteer hours.
Community Service Guidelines
Volunteer hours may be earned in both the school and community, as long as the student is donating their time and not benefiting from the service or receiving any pay. Please read below to see a more detailed description of community service.
- A student may earn volunteer hours by helping at an event or performance at which admission is charged or a donation collected, providing that the student is not a member of the organization benefiting from the event. For example, a student, who is not a member of the Drama Club, may volunteer to usher and collect tickets at a drama club production and earn service learning hours.
- Students may receive volunteer hours for helping at religious institutions as long as those hours do not include participation in a religious service. A student may receive service hours for assisting in landscaping, office work, clean up days or volunteering in the day care center.
- Service for a student’s family or family business will not count. Volunteer hours may not be certified by a family member or fellow student.
- Babysitting services for school or in a church nursery related situation will count.
These situations will not be awarded service hours:
- Donating items: The act of donating goods itself is considered a non-cash contribution, not a service.
- Donating money: Financial contributions are not volunteer hours.
- Attending a philanthropy event: Simply attending does not count as service, though hosting the event can.
- Attending a club or organization meeting: This is a requirement for membership, not volunteer hours.
- Babysitting, fence building, lawn and landscaping, or similar services, performed for an individual family, will not count.
- Helping family with tasks: While it is appreciated that you are contributing, we consider this a personal responsibility, not service to the wider community or external organization. (Specific exceptions may exist-please discuss with Mrs. Harper)
